'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'. I used my external 1 TB hard drive (WD My Passport) yesterday. Then just recently this. Hicapiogwapo, Your Mac is not recognizing the format of your file system. And I have put your mind at rest that not only can you use WD My Passport on a Mac, it works really well on a Mac. Don’t be shy I invite you to check out my other articles here on the site. ![]() I recently had to purchase a new MacBook Pro, and when I tried to get files off of my Passport for Mac external hard drive. I get an error stating 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.' And when I try to initalize, and verify disk, I get this message 'Partition map check failed because no slices were found.' I have already updated firmware for the external hard drive. One site I found stated that it could be that the USB port is not strong enough, and I would need a 2.0 Booster cable. Does anyone know if this would work? It wont do the verify and repair. I get the error about the partition and no slices being found. I get same error for repair as well. Best free steam mac games. Doesn't let me get any further. I'm really starting to worry that I won't recover all my photos from 10 years. I had just moved all my photos from Iphoto to the HD, because my old laptop didn't have enough space.and then it died.and now the HD dies. There's got to be something I can do. Can I have the data removed from HD by some other method to another HD? I believe that's also said in the User Manual that came with your external. Look at page 6 under Optional Accessories. If that's the case, you're fortunate you didn't get a Retina MBP because there's only one USB port on each side and the optional cable couldn't reach both. Since it shows up in Disk Utility, does it list both a Media line and a volume line below it? With the Media line selected, at the bottom of the window do you see line saying 'Partition Map Scheme'? ![]() Kmichiko wrote: I see a media line and the one below is an 'unmounted Partition', which is grayed out. It also still says on the media line that SMART is not supported, but it passed on the Western Digital Utility. Any other ideas from here? The fact that a media scan could be accomplished when connected to your MBP suggests the external is getting enough power to spin the drive. SMART isn't supported via Disk Utility with a USB connection though WD has apparently found a way to read it with its own software none-the-less. When you click on the unmounted partition line, does anything appear at the bottom of the window next to Partition Map Scheme? And when that line is clicked, does the 'Mount' button at the top of the window become active? If it does, click it to mount the partition. Suddenly, and inexplicably, the drive has become unreadable on her two Apple Mac computers which had previously read the drive with no problems. But, on two of the three browsers, no joy. How do I configure 1Password to give me only one window when opening a login URL from the main program? On my iMac, using 1Password (Version 4.4.1 (441006) Mac App Store), When I used 1Password with Chrome (Version 37.0.2062.122) and Firefox (version) 32.0.2, 1Password still opened up two instances, with either a double click on the left, or a single click on the right. 1password for mac google browser. SJK, Thanks for your response. She has a desktop, Apple Power Macintosh G5 1.8 (PCI) (Late 2004) - M9555LL/A and notebook, Apple PowerBook G4 1.33 15' 15-Inch 1.5/1.33 - M9421LL/A. Both of them have Mac OS 10.4, Tiger. I've plugged the drive into several PCs and they are able to read the drive just fine. I've accessed the drive on several different computers, Windows 7, XP, 8 and Ubuntu, and have run diagnostics on the drive, and everything seems to be fine without. She states that she hasn't changed anything around on her computers, and though they are old machines, they used to access the drive with no problem. When plugging the drive in, the LED light comes on and it spins up, but it doesn't appear to be detected by the Mac machines. I've tried all of the obvious things, such as checking that the Finder preferences are set to display connected drives, and so on and so forth. Of note, if I go into the system preferences, the drives do not show up, either. Also, the drive is connected directly to the machines, and we've tried unhooking all other USB peripherals. I'm not a Mac expert, but I've tried everything I could think of, and have yet to resolve this problem.
